The diptych Hidden Souls is part of a project in which I try, through photography, to investigate the feelings and thoughts of those people who posed, in antiquity, as models for the statues we now consider classic.
This project, called My days have been a dream, is composed of “chapters” each of which investigates a different aspect of this silent dialogue between me and these people stuck in time. Through images I therefore try to establish a contact between me and those people, no longer in the world for centuries, making their soul emerge, now imprisoned forever in marble.
The entire project sees the shooting of statues from different periods, from Greek-Roman classicism to the modernity of the early 1900s. The diptych Hidden Souls wants to return the marble in “skin”, close the circle of materiality, trying to live, to those who now look at those bodies, the same feelings and thoughts of those who stood in front of those people, models and models of those who today for us are nothing but statues.
Amazon is the statue of a woman who was supposed to be warrior and sensual at the same time, made in the 2nd century BC, of Pentelic marble for the emperor Hadrian and kept in Villa Adriana in Tivoli (Rome). Ares, the son of Zeus and Hera, is the god of war, Mars. He often represents the physical or violent and untamed aspect of war. Here, he is just a man who dreams. Also this statue is kept in Villa Adriana.
Il dittico Hidden Souls è parte di un progetto in cui cerco, attraverso il mio sguardo, di comprendere i sentimenti e i pensieri di coloro che si ponevano, nell’antichità, come modelli per le statue che oggi consideriamo classiche.
Questo progetto, chiamato My days have been a dream, è composto da “capitoli” ognuno dei quali indaga un aspetto diverso di questo dialogo silenzioso tra me e queste persone bloccate nel tempo.
Attraverso le immagini cerco quindi di stabilire un contatto con esse, facendo emergere la loro anima, ormai imprigionata per sempre nel marmo.
L’intero progetto My days have been a dream vede la ripresa di statue di epoche diverse, dal classicismo greco-romano alla modernità dei primi del ‘900.
Il dittico Hidden Souls vuole far tornare “pelle” il marmo, chiudere il cerchio della matericità, tentando di far vivere – a chi guarda ora quei corpi – gli stessi sentimenti e pensieri di coloro che si ponevano di fronte a quelle persone, modelle e modelli di quelle che oggi per noi non sono altro che statue.
Amazon è la statua di una donna che doveva essere guerriera e sensuale allo stesso tempo, realizzata nel II secolo a.C., in marmo pentelico per l’imperatore Adriano e conservata a Villa Adriana a Tivoli (Roma). Ares, il figlio di Zeus e Era, è il dio della guerra, Marte. Spesso rappresenta l’aspetto fisico o violento e selvaggio della guerra. Qui è solo un uomo che sogna.
Anche questa statua è conservata a Villa Adriana.
